The Associated Press reported that a University of Texas regent spoke with Alabama coach Nick Saban's agent about Saban coaching the Longhorns if Mack Brown retired. The conversation took place a few days after Alabama won the national championship in January. Two days later, Brown was approached by a former regent to consider retiring. Brown declined, and the matter was dropped. Regent Wallace Hall said he spoke by telephone with Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton. Tom Hicks, a former regent, also was on the call. It was not clear who initiated the meeting. Sexton did not return a call seeking comment.
