Residents and business owners will get their say next week on proposed sewer rate increases in Jefferson County. A hearing is set for one week from today in the county commission chambers at 9am. The additional five dollar base charge for sewer rates could go into effect November 1st. It will mean a 13 percent increase in the average residential sewer bill and just over 7 percent for non residential users. Officials say the rate increases are needed as the county works to meet a December 20th deadline to exit bankruptcy.
