It's being hailed as a solution to the long car tag lines in Jefferson County. The county commission Monday voted to install a new software program. It's owned by Tuscaloosa County, which is willing to share it, at no cost. County Manager Tony Petelos says it will definitely speed things up. "Their system will work in Jefferson County," Petelos said. "We're very excited that they have agreed to work with us on this project." Tuscaloosa County's software allows workers to scan documents in seconds. Currently, Jefferson County employees must type in all of the information, a time-consuming process. Petelos said a simple renewal using the new software can take just 57 seconds. The county is hoping to have the new system ready by the new year.
