Four little girls killed fifty years ago in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing were honored today with a Congressional Gold Medal. Denise McNair, Carol Robertson, Addie Mae Collins and Cynthia Wesley died in the 1963 bomb blast. Birmingham leaders joined their family members along with members of the House and Senate for the ceremony. Meanwhile, bronze and steel sculptures of the four girls will be unveiled Saturday. The "Four Spirits Memorial" will sit at the edge of Kelly Ingram Park. Nearly $250,000 was raised to create the sculptures. Family members of the bombing victims are expected to be at the ceremony.
