NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” kicked off the first part of its 14th season Sunday night with an intense first episode. Among the competitors this season is Hoover’s Gina McDonald who saw her fair share of camera time.
Trainer and fitness phenom Jillian Michaels is back this season and introductions got the episode quickly underway. Teams were assigned and McDonald ended up on trainer Bob Harper’s blue team. After a first workout filled with fainting, plenty of yelling on Jillian’s part and a gratuitous amount of vomiting, Harper noted that McDonald seemed distant. Afterwards, we got into a little bit of her backstory She talked about being a mother and a wife, fearing that her weight would take her prematurely from her family.
“The weight has taken over all the good things in my life,” McDonald told the cameras.
In between the drama in the gym, the show acquainted viewers with new additions to the show in the form of three kids between the ages of 13 and 17-years-old named Lindsay Bravo, Sanjana “Sunny” Chandrasekar and Noah “Biingo” Gray. So far, the kids are inspiring, with 13-year-old Biingo standing out. The kids stepped in to help the contestants with their first challenge.
The second day in the gym didn’t have as much vomit, but it did reveal more about McDonald’s mindset. After taking a spill off of a treadmill, she had a heart to heart with Harper revealing that she thought being the oldest woman on her team at 47 made her the weakest link.
Turns out, she’s not. She saved her team at the weigh-in by losing 15 lbs., which kept them from eliminating a member. Afterwards, Harper noted that all she needed to do was take off what he called a ‘coat of fear.” Her seemingly bubby personality shined through along with a new burst of confidence.
“This old lady can rock it with the young dudes,” she said.
